Sports Activities

PREAMBLE

Sports and games are essential components of a student's journey in Higher Education. It enhances self-esteem, improves self-confidence, and promotes a healthy and happy society. Sports and games are important in fostering social harmony, inculcating discipline, and helping in channelizing the vast youth potential.

SCOPE OF THE COMMITTEE

The KNIPSS, Sultanpur Sports Committee is constituted to deal with all prerequisites for optimum usage of resources provided in order to maintain good sportsmanship by students at the College and with the visiting individuals & teams.

VISION

Development of a sustainable and diverse sports and recreation system that will provide a holistic learning experience.

MISSION

To ensure ‘Sports for Everyone’ through competitive and recreational sports and the practice of sports activities aimed at all individuals, without any discrimination of age, sex, physical, social, cultural, or ethnic condition.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Sports Committee are to:
  1. To spread sports culture among the students.
  2. To promote students’ sports participation and to inculcate a sportsmen spirit.
  3. To search for sports talent and to groom them as better performers.
  4. To provide incentives and bestow awards to sportspersons to maintain sustained interest among students to participate and perform progressively.
  5. To provide excellent sports facilities by developing adequate and standard sports infrastructure facilities like Playing fields, Gymnasium,Track & Field, and procuring quality equipment.
  6. To provide a systematic coaching program by involving qualified & competent personnel to groom University teams & sports talent.
  7. Increase the level of student participation in activities and events from the grassroots level, both inside and outside of the Institute curriculum.
  8. Promote the advantages of physical activity in terms of health and social well-being.
  9. Inculcate a sense of discipline and teamwork among students.

FUNCTIONS

  1. Organization of the events regarding sports inside and outside the KNIPSS campus.
  2. Recommendation for the reimbursement and advance payment for organizing sports events inside or outside the KNIPSS campus.
  3. Recommendation for the appointment of coaches/trainers/in-charges according to the requirement for different sports at the KNIPSS, Sultanpur.
  4. Recommendation for the purchasing sports items or equipment for sports activities at the KNIPSS, Sultanpur.
  5. Maintenance of the stock of used, unused and in-use sports items and equipment.
  6. Preparation of assessment report for the organized events based on performance.
  7. Observation of the overall sports activities inside and outside the KNIPSS, Sultanpur campus.
  8. Ensure the arrangements for boarding and lodging for the participating teams inside and outside the KNIPSS campus.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Committee Members/Faculty Coordinators:
  1. To identify, select and register students from their respective department for tournaments.
  2. To ensure display of event-related information and notices of respective sports on notice boards.
  3. To coordinate with Sports Officer in allotment of time, venue, grounds, and other required sports facilities to team members.
  4. To ensure attendance of team members in sports activities.
  5. To ensure that students have their attire while participating in sports activities.
  6. To assist the purchase committee in purchasing sports-related items.
  7. To handle disputes related to sports activities, make reports related to disputes, and submit them to ‘The Sports committee’.
  8. To coordinate with Sports Officer during Inter-School and other Institute level events.
  9. To maintain records of all students participating in sports activities from the respective department.
  10. To submit all the details related to Institute teams to the Sports Officer.

Sports Officer:

  1. To prepare sports calendar and to monitor all activities in the Institute events.
  2. To decide and procure venue, time, equipment, and other facilities for Institute events.
  3. To assure the maintenance of discipline during the competitions and to handle protests with the cooperation of the Sports Committee.
  4. To ensure the arrangement of facilities (travel, food, lodging, etc.) for teams going outside the Institute to participate in events.
  5. To arrange costumes/sports kits and facilitate their distribution.
  6. To prepare the budget for all sports activities.
  7. To take care of all sports-related venues.
  8. To appoint officials for various events.
  9. To schedule and arrange sports camps whenever required.
  10. To coordinate with Institute Faculty Coordinators.
  11. To plan, conduct, and attend various meetings with the Director Sports, Coaches, and Faculty Coordinators.
  12. To monitor and supervise all sports activities, and coordinate with coaches.
  13. To purchase properties and equipment needed by various sports coaches/in-charges as a purchase committee member.
  14. To coordinate with wardens during coaching/training camps and other such events for late entry and other arrangements of students in hostels.

Chairperson:

  1. To sanction and monitor the budget for all sports activities.
  2. To plan, conduct, and attend various meetings with the Sports Officer, Coaches, and Committee Members.
  3. To monitor the appointment of officials for competition.
  4. To prepare camps schedule and ensure the proper functioning of camps.
  5. To recommend TA/DA of students and to ensure that all facilities provided are as per Institute rules.
  6. To attend various events organized in the Institute as per the requirements.
  7. To organize refresher courses, orientation programs, seminars, and other activities that could help promote activities on the campus.
  8. To sanction and arrange leaves for students and staff when required.
  9. To appraise the performance of all Departmental staff.
  10. To make requisition to provide proper facilitation, equipment, infrastructure, and support to the department.
  11. To monitor all the extramural and sports activities and take necessary steps for their improvements.
  12. To facilitate the introduction of new events in the Institute.
  13. To work as a member of Grievance and Dispute Resolution Committee, Selection Committee, and Purchase committee.

Sports facilities: The focus of institute is both on indoor and outdoor games/ sports with large playfield area and a gymnasium. Institute offers wide variety of indoor and outdoor games.

Indoor Facilities: The institute has a separate space for indoor sports. It is well equipped with sport equipment’s and board games. The indoor games such as Table Tennis, Chess, and Carrom-board etc. are available.

Outdoor Facilities: The institute has well maintained playgrounds/ fields for outdoor sports such as Cricket, Badminton, Volley-ball, Football, and Hockey and is fully utilized by the students are shown in Figure 8.15 and Figure 8.16. The sports activity is monitored and managed through the Sports Council, which is headed by its Convener. The council takes the responsibility to provide sports stuffs, its maintenance and encourage students for maximum participation in sport activities.

Sports Activities
